The busy parent making time to trail run

Each week, we are shining a light on one of the brilliant people who make up FLOCK. Our members come from all walks of life, with different backgrounds, goals, and levels of experience, and that is exactly what makes this trail running community so special.

Tell us your name and a little about yourself?

Hello, I’m Liz, I really love all things watery and I am currently learning to wingfoil.  I have 3 kids who are 10, 8 and 5 so they, and running fit in somewhere around wingfoiling, sailing and working!

How long have you been trail running with us?

Since the end of summer 2025

What is your running background?

I started running in 2008 after my dad died, to raise money for Cancer Research and also do something positive.  I did a few road races up to half marathons, but then went out running on the trails with some friends and realised that was the place for me.  I love the atmosphere of trail running, I have found it to be really supportive and much less about the pace, more about completing a challenge and enjoying the route.

How did you feel before your first FLOCK run?

I was really nervous about starting to run with a group as I am not fast, and didn’t really know what to expect from the pace or whether I could have emergency walking moments!

What has been your biggest challenge so far in your running journey?

Aside from finding the time to commit to the runs, remembering that I won’t be the only person there worrying about pace and being slow.  I find it easy to talk myself out of going for a run with a group, and just revert back to running on my own.

What are you most proud of since joining FLOCK?

Not giving up.  I don’t make it out very often due to kids and other commitments, but I am still here and still getting out when I can.

How has your confidence changed over time on the trails?

Yes, I am getting better at remembering we are all on a journey with our running and people are always supportive of that.

What do you enjoy most about being a part of our trail running community?

Meeting lovely people from all sorts of backgrounds who run for all sorts of reasons.

Do you have a favourite trail running memory, route, or moment?

All the tops of all the hills. Nothing better than the view after thinking you might die on the way up.

I love the atmosphere of trail running, I have found it to be really supportive and much less about the pace, more about completing a challenge and enjoying the route.
