MEET KERRIE, A LEVEL 4
MEMBER OF FLOCK
Each week, we are shining a light on one of the brilliant people who make up FLOCK. Our members come from all walks of life, with different backgrounds, goals, and levels of experience, and that is exactly what makes this trail running community so special.
Tell us your name and a little about yourself?
I’m Kerrie, a busy mum of 2 (16 & 3yrs). I have a very crazy busy life, juggling family, work and have a sideline millinery business from home. Going for a run is ‘my time’ to escape from the world and to just breathe and reset.
How long have you been trail running with us?
I started with Flock 5-6 weeks ago
What is your running background?
Before joining FLOCK I would do the odd Park Run and local 5 or 10k races.
How did you feel before your first FLOCK run?
I was excited but anxious. Excited to meet like minded people but anxious about whether I could keep up.
What has been your biggest challenge so far in your running journey?
My biggest challenge is over thinking about the run ahead. For example, distance. I know I can do it, I’ve just got to do it! I did a run on Saturday that was 12k, and I spent the days leading up to it stressing about whether I could do it and was looking at ways that I could leave the route if I needed to, if there were others who were also thinking the same – could I stick with them etc?
What are you most proud of since joining FLOCK?
I’m most proud of how much I have progressed in just 4 weeks and the amount of running I’ve been doing. I was doing maybe a 5k Park Run once every 2-3 weeks. Last week I clocked over 32k from 4 days of running in 1 week!
How has your confidence changed over time on the trails?
My confidence has changed massively. Mainly from all the support that I get from everyone.
What do you enjoy most about being a part of our trail running community?
The support from the community at FLOCK is amazing. There could be a question niggling about a specific run, or a bit of kit and you are guaranteed a response within minutes on the group chat. We are all like minded people and there is no judgement or any form of negativity. With the added beauty of the surroundings on all the runs.
Do you have a favourite trail running memory, route, or moment?
My favorite memory to date would have to be the Slindon Night Trail. Getting to the top by the Folley and then running down the gravel track with the wind blowing with us and just feeling free! I’d also never ran a night trail before and being in the darkness with just our head torches lighting the way felt exhilarating.
